A place near my job with delicious looking dogs run by someone else who doesn't like the federal government?! I'm on my way there for lunch right now...in fact, you may see me there everyday!

If social security worked as advertised I think you'd have a good point! If you read the quoted text from the SSA letter and don't find it ridiculous you are one overly trusting individual. The point is not so much that I think social security is a flawed concept while others think it worthwhile, but that an organization with the gall to address its participants in such convoluted nonsense is not an organization with whom anyone should feel good about entrusting their future. The fact that there is no choice in the matter is problematic. If SS were a voluntary program it would be more sensible. Choose not to pay in and face the consequences of that decision if you so desire.

Euh, sorry but your blog makes an immediate bad impression. Makes me feel like a 22 year old book smart people stupid radical leftist. Your knowledge seems a little out of touch with reality - In countries where the quality of life for the average person is much higher than the USA, in all cases I know, something similar to social security exists and is done far better than in the USA. Totally, with all the bad things that go on in this country perhaps you can find something more constructive to criticize than the social security system?
