On October 25, 2004, two intrepid college students opened a hot dog lunch counter in the basement of downtown’s Trinity Cathedral. Navigating through events like a turning a bookstore into a restaurant, a bizarre lawsuit and subsequent name change, and a chronic illness diagnosis, owners Tim Tobitsch and Megan Lindsey have come through some harrowing and hilarious times mostly unscathed. Franktuary has now grown into a full scale bar and restaurant in Lawrenceville, focusing on local and organic ingredients, sustainable and ethical farming practices that produce their grass-fed beef and free-range pork menu items. Their menu showcases these ingredients amongst an assortment of hot dog toppings, poutines, craft cocktails, and local beers. And don’t forget about the mobile food truck touring franks and poutine around the city.

In celebration of an exciting 10 years, Franktuary will be hosting a week of pumpkin-filled celebrations leading up to their 10th birthday party. Tuesday, October 21 kicks off Pumpkinfest and will feature a variety of pumpkin themed menu items and events. From the kitchen, a pumpkin-themed frank topping, house-made pumpkin pierogies, and a chocolate pumpkin dessert will be crafted by Chef Dan Lamb. A selection of pumpkin beers will be on special, both draft and bottled, and bar manager Drew Cranisky will mix a special pumpkin cocktail.

Events for the week include regular Tuesday Trivia at 8pm, but pumpkin themed, of course. On Wednesday the bar will host a Pumpkin Painting Happy Hour from 4-6 pm, with a screening of the ever lovable It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Thursday’s Crossword Challenge will contain a pumpkin surprise, and during Happy Hour on Friday the C Street Brass Band will serenade guests with peppy tunes. [Edit: C Street Brass will be playing at 8pm, not Happy Hour].

Come in your favorite party hat for Saturday’s birthday celebration! As a token of our gratitude, guests will be served a complimentary birthday treat. The birthday week will wrap up with a pumpkin themed brunch: It’s the Great Brunchkin, Charlie Brown.

Frank you very much for 10 years of dogged support!
