Hello Franktuary fans! My name is Haven; I am the new gardener at the Lawrenceville Franktuary. I am excited to begin planting herbs and veggies in our garden, so that you may enjoy them fresh on your plate.IMG_8959

We’ve already started seedlings indoors, and once the weather heats up, we’ll start planting kale, cabbage, brussels sprouts, radishes, tomatoes, and many fresh herbs like Italian and Thai basils, parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.IMG_8900

We already have several plants beginning to sprout in the garden as well. The mint is quickly creeping up from its bed, and it looks and smells delicious.IMG_8927b

I took an early risk and seeded some radishes, parsley and scallions long before the last frost. The radishes have paid off and are sprouting happily, but we’ll have to wait to see about the finicky parsley… IMG_8922

The onions I seeded most likely froze to death… bummer. Fortunately, there are many scallions growing strong from last fall!IMG_8908

I’ve started a compost heap for kitchen and garden scraps, and we will soon set up a vermicompost bin for kitchen scraps.IMG_8953

Our rain barrel collects runoff to reduce our water consumption. It fills up very fast. A second barrel may be needed.

The garden will soon be a lush and wonderful space, and I will gladly welcome any visitors to come to me for a tour or to help out a bit! I’m happy to answer questions, receive advice, or just chat.

We have lots of plans ahead, and I will keep yinz posted on our progress!
